Greenland: Disko Bay & Beyond

The west coast of Greenland presents visitors with an extraordinary journey through a frozen land which features both majestic glaciers and floating icebergs and traditional Inuit heritage that stretches back for many years. The Arctic expedition through this itinerary enables travelers to explore thriving seaside settlements and distant natural territories which demonstrate how people survive in the frozen border between ice and land.

The vibrant streets of Sisimiut lead travelers to volcanic landscapes on Disko Island which then connect to the vast Ilulissat Icefjord to show Greenland's natural and cultural heritage in different ways.

Day by day

Day 1: Gateway to the Arctic: Kangerlussuaq
The journey begins in Kangerlussuaq, a remote settlement surrounded by vast Arctic landscapes. The town developed from its location at the end of a long fjord which extends far into the interior of the land. The town developed as a strategic air base during the mid-20th century and remains one of Greenland’s primary transport gateways. Travelers begin their journey through the striking Kangerlussuaq Fjord after they arrive at their destination. The landscape displays a combination of rocky hills together with tundra plains and glacial valleys which developed through millennia of ice activity. The ship moves toward Western Greenland waters which make it clear that we are entering one of the world's remaining unspoiled wilderness areas.
Day 2: Sisimiut and Greenlandic Culture
The town of Sisimiut welcomes visitors with a unique chance to discover Greenlandic heritage through its historical and cultural offerings. The town serves as Denmark's second largest city because it houses about 5,400 people who create a vital hub for fishing activities and educational institutions and business operations. The archaeological evidence shows that Inuit people from ancient times established their settlement in this area during the distant past. The town shows an interesting combination of past traditions with present-day activities which makes for an interesting community. Visitors can explore the historic museum district which displays wooden buildings painted in cheerful hues that preserve the colonial architecture of Sisimiut. The area features hiking trails which let visitors watch ocean views while they discover ancient Greenlandic settlements that reveal how the first people of Greenland lived.
Day 3: Disko Island and Qeqertarsuaq
Day 4: Uummannaq’s Spectacular Fjord
Day 5: Eqip Sermia Glacier Encounter
Day 6: Ilulissat and the Iceberg Landscape
Day 7: Itilleq and Inuit Heritage
Day 8: Farewell to Greenland in Kangerlussuaq
